Provincial Evensong Service at Bury Cathedral

Provincial Evensong Service at Bury Cathedral

Dear Brethren, I am delighted to announce that the Cathedral of St James in Bury St Edmunds has agreed that the Province join the Cathedral congregation for Sung Evensong, at 3.30pm on Sunday 23rd October 2022. In the light of an unfortunate but gentle wave of anti-masonic feeling amongst some clergy nationally it is breathtakingly refreshing to know that we have the total support of The Very Reverend Joe Hawes, Dean of the Cathedral.

At its second meeting on 5th April 2022, Suffolk 250 Lodge invited the Dean to join the lodge at the end of its meeting and to give a talk on the life and work of the Cathedral. This was incredibly well received, and it was obvious to the lodge that the Dean was fully aware of the contribution masons make to the life of the county and nation. The Dean expressed a firm wish that there should be a connection between the Province and the Cathedral and that we should seek to strengthen that connection.

In the light of that may I encourage each lodge and therefore each brother to consider joining us on 23rd October 2022 to further a strong bond with the cathedral. This invitation is open to all brethren and their partners, family and friends. Afterwards there will be a buffet meal at Ashlar House, 23 Eastern Way, Bury St Edmunds IP32 7AB for those who wish to partake.

With fraternal best wishes,
Kevan The Rev Canon Kevan McCormack PAGCh Eng.
Provincial Grand Chaplain
