About the Lodge: Consecrated on 12th November 2016 this unique masonic lodge meets four times a year at the Sudbury Masonic Centre, North Street, Sudbury Suffolk CO10 1NA. The meetings are held at 10.30am on the second Saturday of November, February, May and September followed by a festive lunch. This is often followed by the attendance to a sporting venue or the watching of a game from the comfort of the Masonic Hall or local Sports Club.
Freemasonry has been one of the very few (if not only) fraternities to thrive for over 300 years weathering the changes in society but still, in many ways, mirroring the society in which we live. However, the majority of lodges follow roughly the same procedure, with the recruitment of good, like minded men, and the ritual of their installation and path through the Craft. Likewise, the Sportsman’s lodge pursues the same objectives but with a lighter, less formal atmosphere. We ensure that we follow what is termed the “landmarks” of the order at all our meetings, but with an emphasis on sport and enjoying the day.
Our Founders besides being active masons, have a united interest in sport and have but one purpose in mind, to not only perfect our masonry, but above all to have fun and spend our Saturday together in active harmony.
With that in mind it is our intent to perform our ceremonies in a brief but well conducted manner. Then to enjoy a drink together before sitting to a goodly festive board with speeches, toasts etc. kept to a brief although amusing format. Then hopefully on to a local sporting event at say the rugby or cricket clubs with a convivial jar with players and supporters alike. Incidentally, such clubs are the ideal recruiting ground, as we have learnt, for those to whom the team spirit and ethos of freemasonry is alike to the sporting world.
We do not intend to confine our activities to Sudbury. With dispensation we can move and hold our meetings to wherever the fancy takes us. A Dublin hotel followed by a visit to a match, Henley, Lords, or any other suitable venue. To be concise, a lodge with but one view in mind, to have fun!
We welcome new members, both active masons and those who may wish to join us in the Craft. Please contact the Secretary, Anthony Lyster on 01787-269628 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
